ABOUT LYNN
Why do we need therapy?
Firstly I am a wife and Mother to two precious sons. Family is one of our greatest teachers... they press the buttons we never knew we had. Like pearls which start off as a grain of sand and over time they develop into something beautiful and valuable, so family and friendships have the potential to create awareness around our strengths and areas we can grow in.
Since 2007, I’ve been working as a Registered Counsellor. My main areas of practice include family and marriage therapy, adjusting to parenthood, Identity and self-worth issues, understanding who you are and dealing with stress in all contexts. The reality of life is that we get to choose what we do with the challenges of life. We can choose to grow and learn through them so that they can become a stepping stone to walking in self-acceptance.
SCOPE OF PRACTICE
I have worked in various contexts such as crisis centers, schools, churches and private practice. Life is a journey of being intentional and choosing to grow. For me, every obstacle is an opportunity to learn and grow through. An opportunity to become aware of where we need to heal, or recognising that we have healed in an area. It’s about celebrating every victory no matter how small or big they are. Lastly it’s about building meaningful connections as we journey.
I have mentioned four of the main areas of my practice below, but my practice is not limited to these areas.
I also offer Training for Corporate companies. I have worked with different Corporate companies running training for Staff. In addition to this I offer Staff Wellness support counselling. I am passionate about helping children and adults with Reading and Spelling difficulties and therefore I qualified as an Independent Phono-Graphix™ Reading Therapist and Level 1 Tomatis® Practitioner. More recently I qualified as an SGDA Dyslexia Diagnostician.
The goal of therapy for me is ultimately defined by this quote by Lisa Ruth Mitchell:
“All Therapists have the inherent drive to reach in and help turn on the shining brilliance of each person with whom we work.”
FAMILY COUNSELLING, MARRIAGE COUNSELLING, ADJUSTING TO PARENTHOOD, ASSISTING FAMILIES WHEN SEPARATED GEOGRAPHICALLY.
Building connections.
Family structures are very different in our current generation. Parents travel and work abroad, Mother's are now working full-time. This is a wonderful opportunity for many, however it can cause a range of issues within the family context. I have found that challenging the lenses we wear can be helpful in navigating these issues. I have developed some basic techniques to help families build connection and celebrate who they are without comparing themselves to other families.
IDENTITY AND SELF WORTH
Celebrate who you are
Sometimes this is the most challenging goal to achieve, however living in acceptance and celebration of who you are is the ultimate goal. The journey of self- discovery is a life-long process. The journey begins by recognising who we really are and letting go of who we are not.
OVERCOMING STRESS AND TRAUMA
The truth about control
In life we are confronted by two boxes. The controllable elements and uncontrollable elements. However even in the uncontrollable elements we are able to choose! Dealing with stress and trauma is often a journey of recognising what we can control and what we cannot control - and the journey of navigating the uncontrollable elements in a way which does not overwhelm us.
PASTORAL COUNSELLING
We are Spirit, Soul and Body
For some clients, there is a need and desire to include their Spiritual belief system in their counselling sessions. Just as we need to be looking after our physical bodies, we also need to look after our Mind, our Will and our Emotions (our soul) as well as our Spiritual life. This is only ever at the request of the client.
Corporate Review: "Lynn is an invaluable resource to our employees. She has provided short-term counselling for a number of our staff on a variety of topics (eg. grief, anxiety). Each person has expressed what an impactful and beneficial engagement it was. Lynn has also run trauma workshops for our whole company, to assist with working through the trauma of recent events such a Covid, riots, floods, as well as personal trauma which one experiences as part of life. Our people and their wellbeing are so important to our company; and we are so honoured and glad to have Lynn to call on. Thank you, Lynn!"

READING THERAPY
I am now registered as an Independent Phono-Graphix™️ Reading Therapist. I am able to offer online and in-person Reading and Spelling Therapy. I have included a document which briefly outlines the Phono-Graphix approach and a link to a YouTube video which demonstrates the Phono-Graphix™️ approach. Please contact me if you have any queries. I look forward to assisting you or your children.
"Hi Lynn
Thank you so much.
So glad I met you.
xxxx is absolutely flourishing since he started with you and using Phono-Graphix.
He detested English and every day was a battle for me to get him to read or write.
In the last 3 months he has started to enjoy reading and actually reads on his own accord without me having to battle with him.
His spelling has vastly improved as well as his handwriting.
I can see the newly built confidence he has in himself since starting with you!
Thank you for helping make the change in him and switching on that light!"
Tomatis®️ Level 1 Practitioner
In addition to qualifying as an Independent Phono-Graphix™️ Reading Therapist; I am now able to offer Clients Tomatis®️ Sound Therapy. Tomatis®️ supports any therapy journey which includes emotional regulation, reading, spelling and attention challenges. There is a link to a video clip explaining what Tomatis® Sound Therapy is and how it works.
